Played on Oak Street Beach yesterday, the solstice, in a performance of Swell Piece by James Tenney, with Nomi Epstein and A.pe.ri.od.ic. The idea was to space out the 16 performers, each doing their own swells, so that observers could walk between us and experience shifting perspectives and textures. Which many did. It was an interesting performance. Very meditative. I concentrated on bow contact, and looked out over Lake Michigan. I noticed that my perception of time was affected by bow speed — a weird Einstein revelation. Here’s a write up in the reader
